Seven-run inning helps River Cats top Aces
August 15, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Sacramento River Cats News Release
RENO, NV - The Sacramento River Cats (48-73) took advantage of a seven-run fifth inning to cruise to a 9-1 victory over the Reno Aces (62-59) on Tuesday night.
Fueled by two hits in the same inning from catcher Ronnie Freeman, Sacramento strung together seven hits, featuring four extra-base hits, as 11 hitters batted in the fifth. Freeman finished the night 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI.
Starting pitcher Chris Stratton was solid on the mound, going six strong innings while allowing just one earned run on five hits and two walks. It's the 13th consecutive time that a River Cats starter has pitched at least five innings.
The River Cats will look for just their seventh series win of the season as they face Reno on Wednesday for the final time in 2018. Left-hander Daniel Camarena (0-7, 5.02) hopes to build upon his stellar outing last week while right-hander Jake Buchanan (9-8, 4.81) is scheduled to start for the Aces. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. (PT). Catch all of the action live online at rivercats.com, on the MiLB First Pitch app, and on the air on Money 105.FM.
Additional Notes
- Infielder Kelby Tomlinson went 2-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to 15 games. He's two away from tying the current team leader, Austin Slater, whose run reached 17 from April 25 to May 22.
- The River Cats set season records in the top of the fifth in both hits in an inning (7) and runs in an inning (7). And Freeman's two hits in the same inning was the first such occurrence since Mac Williamson did it on July 6, also in Reno against the Aces.
- All nine River Cats hitters recorded at least one hit, including five who notched two or more. For the starting pitcher Stratton, it was his second hit of the year with the River Cats, but fifth overall (including time in San Francisco).
