Sacramento River Cats News Release

West Sacramento, CA - New York Yankees legend and musician Bernie Williams is teaming up with Minor League Baseball (MiLB) to raise awareness for a disease close to his heart - idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Williams will be partnering with the River Cats at Raley Field on Thursday, August 23, for a Breathless® Blowout game as part of Boehringer Ingelheim's Breathless® campaign, which educates people about the symptoms of IPF and the importance of an early diagnosis. IPF is a rare lung disease which took the life of Williams' father in 2001. Since his father's passing, Williams has been on a mission to bring hope and awareness to all those impacted by IPF.

Breathlessness is one of the main symptoms of IPF, which can make every-day activities, like blowing bubbles, hard for someone living with the disease. During the game, Williams will rally fans in blowing bubble gum together in honor of those living with IPF. He will also be on hand to share his personal story with fans, throw out a ceremonial first pitch, and perform music with his guitar.

Bernie Williams played his entire 16-year career with the New York Yankees, and was a member of four World Championship teams. The center-fielder was a five-time Major League Baseball All-Star and won four Gold Glove Awards. He is one of the most beloved Yankees of all time and had his number, 51, retired by the Yankees in May 2015.

Tickets are still available for the August 23 game against the Fresno Grizzlies. For more information, please call the River Cats ticket hotline at (916) 371-HITS (4487) or visit rivercats.com or the Round Table Pizza Ticket Office at Raley Field.
