Dziedzic Dazzles in Chasers 1-0 Walk-Off Victory over OKC

August 15, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

PAPILLION, NE - Omaha starter Jonathan Dziedzic extended his scoreless innings streak to 20 innings with six excellent innings, while Oklahoma City Dodgers starter Daniel Corcino tossed seven shutout frames of two-hit ball in a pitcher's duel, before Jack Lopez delivered a tenth-inning walk-off sacrifice fly to give the Storm Chasers 1-0 victory on Tuesday night at Werner Park.

Prior to tonight's matchup, the club welcomed their Three Millionth Fan at Werner Park since the gates were opened for the first time on April 16, 2011. The lucky individual was Christy Hofer from Omaha, who was the 3,456th fan to enter tonight and won a prize package that included three half-season ticket packages for the 2019 season.

Entering the night with 14 straight scoreless innings, Dziedzic (6.0 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K) added to his total and upped his scoreless streak to 20. The streak dates back to July 26 and is the longest of any Storm Chasers pitcher this season. Corcino (7.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K) countered with an equally impressive performance on the mound, allowing just two hits while striking out four. Despite their strong efforts, neither Dziedzic nor Corcino factored in the final decisions.

Storm Chasers pitchers did not allow a hit from the sixth inning on, with lefty Richard Lovelady (3.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 K) and Jake Newberry (1.0 IP) combining for four outstanding frames of relief. Newberry earned his third victory of the season. Dodgers reliever Michael Johnson (1.2 IP, H, R, K) suffered his first loss of the season.

Omaha scored the game's lone run in the extra inning. 1B Humberto Arteaga grounded out to first, advancing CF Donnie Dewees to third with one out. Jack Lopez then lifted a fly ball to right field, allowing Dewees to tag up and score for the Storm Chasers victory.

LF Paulo Orlando (2-4) led Omaha with two hits, while Oklahoma City SS Donovan Solano (2-5) and RF Alex Verdugo each recorded a pair of knocks as well. Storm Chasers DH Frank Schwindel was unable to record a hit, ending his team-best hit streak at 20 games.

The two teams are set to continue their four-game set on Wednesday night at Werner Park, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT. Omaha is anticipated to give the ball to RHP Arnaldo Hernandez (3-1, 4.18), while Oklahoma City is set to send LHP Kyle Lobstein (0-3, 10.80) to the hill.

Tickets are still available for all remaining 2018 Storm Chasers contests, and may be purchased at www.omahastormchasers.com/tickets as well as by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office at (402) 738-5100.
