Chesapeake Baysox News Release
On a day where Baysox opening day starter Eduardo Rodriguez was traded to the Boston Red Sox, the Baysox were hurt by the big inning and fell to the Binghamton Mets in the series opener by a 9-4 score.
Bowie got out to an early lead in the ballgame. The leadoff batter, CF Mike Yastrzemski hit his 1st home run as a member of the Baysox with a solo shot to center field. The home run is the 12th of the season for Yastrzemski between three levels of minor league baseball in the Orioles organization.
Baysox starter Matt Bischoff was able to get out of a potential big inning in the first inning as the Mets left the bases loaded after plating the tying run. After a solo home run from Dustin Lawley gave Binghamton the lead in the third inning, Bischoff could not avoid the big inning in the fourth. The first four Mets batters reached in the inning, forcing Bowie to enter their pen, and all would score.
Binghamton, leading 6-1 through four innings, would plate three runs in the sixth inning with a two-out rally to advance the advantage to 9-1.
Off the disabled list, Ashur Tolliver worked two scoreless innings out of the pen for Bowie. He retired all six batters faced. DH KD Kang had a three hit night. Yastrzemski not only homered, but also tripled and scored. Bowie scored three runs in two innings against the Mets pen.
The Baysox continue the series in Binghamton Friday, August 1st at 7:05 p.m. Coverage starts 20-minutes prior to first pitch on wnav.com.
Bowie returns home with a Tuesday Fireworks Show on the annual Navy Night at Prince George's Stadium, August 5th at 6:35 p.m. against the Portland Sea Dogs. Get your tickets at 301-464-4865 or online at baysox.com.
