Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Mets pounded out 13 hits in a 9-4 win over the Bowie Baysox on Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium. Brandon Nimmo went 1-for-4 with two runs and three RBI. T.J. Rivera tallied three hits and extended his hitting streak to a season-high nine games. Matt Bowman gave up one run in seven innings to pick up his seventh win.
Despite the offense, it was Bowie that got on the board in the first. Mike Yastrzemski hit a solo home run to center field against Bowman to lead off the game and give the Baysox a 1-0 lead.
The B-Mets came right back in the bottom of the frame against Matt Bischoff. Nimmo's lead-off walk kick-started the Binghamton offense. He moved to third on a Brian Burgamy single. Dustin Lawley came to the plate and laced a double that scored Nimmo to tie the game at one.
Lawley powered the offense again in the third. The slugger hit his 19th home run of the year over the left-field wall to give the home team the advantage for good, 2-1.
The B-Mets blew the game open in the fourth. Travis Taijeron and Xorge Carrillo hit back-to-back singles and Kyle Johnson walked to load the bases with nobody out. Nimmo came through with a triple to straight away center field that emptied the bags and put Binghamton on top by four. The hit drove Bischoff from the game. Dilson Herrera kept the inning going with a single against Julio DePaula to plate Nimmo and make the score 5-1.
The offensive fireworks continued in the sixth. Herrera started the frame with a single. After two outs, Rivera doubled to score the runner. Jayce Boyd brought home Rivera with a single. Following a walk, Carrillo plated the inning's final run with a base knock to give the home team a 9-1 advantage.
Bowie cut into the lead in the eighth against Adam Kolarek. KD Kang singled with two outs and moved to third on a one-bagger by Ronald Bermudez. Michael Ohlman plated Kang with a single. A road team tallied another score on a Garabez Rosa single that scored Bermudez and trimmed the B-Mets lead to 9-3.
The Baysox got one more run back in the ninth against Jon Velasquez. Yastrzemski triple with one out and scored on a double by Niuman Romero to make it a five-run game at 9-4.
Bowman (7-6) struck out six batters in the win. Bischoff (2-5) allowed six runs on seven hits in three-plus innings. DePaula gave up three runs in three frames and struck out four. Kolarek and Velasquez combined to allow three runs on six hits in the last two frames.
The B-Mets (65-46) start a series with the Bowie Baysox on Thursday at 7:05 PM. RHP Gabriel Ynoa goes for Binghamton opposite a pitcher to be announced for Bowie. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show, starting at 6:50 PM, can be heard on News Radio 1290 WNBF and on the Binghamton Mets Baseball Network via the TuneIn App.
