Harrisburg Senators News Release
Quincy Latimore's second homer of the night and fourth in the last three days was a walk-off bomb as the Harrisburg Senators bounced back to beat Akron 10-9 in front of 3,968 fans at Metro Bank Park on Thursday night.
Latimore's solo homer, his ninth of the season, drifted over the right field fence with one out in the tenth inning to secure Harrisburg's second consecutive extra inning win.
Akron scored one run in the first, two in the second and one in third inning on five hits against Senators' starter James Simmons. From there, Simmons was able to settle in and post back-to-back scoreless innings, including a five-pitch fifth inning.
Meanwhile, in his first game since July 24 due to a sore wrist, Michael Taylor hit his 22nd home run of the year to lead off the first inning. In the second inning, Quincy Latimore and Cole Leonida both walked with two outs. Adrian Sanchez followed with a one-hopper off the fence in left field fence to score Latimore. Taylor then walked and Caleb Ramsey delivered a three-run double that barely missed being the Senators' second grand slam in as many days. Harrisburg added two more runs in the third as Latimore left the yard for a third consecutive day. Latimore's eighth homer of the year, a two-run shot, extended the Senators' lead to 7-4.
In the sixth inning, Simmons allowed a single and a double before being relieved by Colin Bates. With runners on second and third, Bates surrendered a two-run single to cut the Harrisburg lead to just 7-6. Bates threw a perfect seventh and combined on a scoreless eighth with Paul Demny. But in the ninth, Demny walked the leadoff man, recorded a strikeout, allowed a single and then struck out another batter. However, the RubberDucks followed with three consecutive singles to create a 9-7 advantage.
However, the Senators responded with two of their own in the bottom half of the ninth inning as Kevin Keyes lined a two-out, two-run single back up the middle with the bases loaded to tie the game.
Derek Self worked around two hits for a scoreless top of the tenth to set up Latimore's heroics.
Tomorrow night Harrisburg and Akron will begin game two of the series at 7:00 p.m. The probable pitchers include Paolo Espino for Harrisburg against Akron's Shawn Morimando. The game can be heard beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m. on 1460 AM or via senatorsbaseball.com, 1460theticket.com or the iHeart Radio app.
