Rock Cats First Baseman Kennys Vargas Promoted to Major Leagues

New Britain, CT- The New Britain Rock Cats Baseball Club, the Double-A Eastern League Affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, has announced that All-Star first baseman Kennys Vargas (pronounced KENNY) has been promoted to the Major Leagues and will join the Twins tonight in Kansas City. He will wear the uniform number 19. Vargas batted .281 with 17 doubles, 17 home runs and 63 RBI in 97 games with the Rock Cats. He was the starting first baseman and batted cleanup in the Major League Futures Game on July 13 at Target Field in Minnesota and also played in the Eastern League All-Star Game.

Vargas, 23, is currently leading the Rock Cats in home runs and RBI (4th Eastern League) and hit three grand slam home runs this season at New Britain. He is listed as the Twins #20 prospect by Baseball America.

The Rock Cats return to New Britain Stadium tonight for a four-game series against the Erie Sea Wolves (Detroit-AL), Thursday-Sunday. Tickets are available for all games by calling 860-224-8383 or visiting the website, www.rockcats.com.
