Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Things have come in threes for the Winnipeg Goldeyes, but unfortunately that thing has been three losses.

The Goldeyes (13-11) suffered a 5-4 loss to the Lincoln Saltdogs (11-13) in the opening game of their four-game series Monday night before 2,771 fans at Haymarket Park in Lincoln.

The Fish have lost three in a row after starting this seven-game road trip with a win. The three consecutive losses match a season-high losing streak.

Winnipeg opened the scoring with three runs in the third inning when Louis Ott scored on a Price Kendall single, Kody Kaiser drove in Kendall with a triple and Kaiser touched home plate off a Brian Myrow single. All the runs were scored with two out in the inning.

However, Lincoln responded swiftly by scoring three times in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game.

The Saltdogs took a 4-3 lead in the fourth inning, but Winnipeg tied it back up in the seventh inning off an RBI double by Kaiser.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Lincoln scored the winning run when Curt Smith counted on a Vance Albitz fielder's choice with the bases loaded.

The Goldeyes had runners on first and second in the top of the ninth inning, but couldn't find the tying run.

Mike Williams was on the hook for Lincoln's run in the eighth and takes the loss. Nick Schreiber gets the win for the Saltdogs, while P.J. Zocchi earns the save.

Winnipeg and Lincoln play the second game of the series Tuesday night in Lincoln. Game time is 7:05 p.m. and all the action can be heard live on Sports Radio 1290, beginning with the pre-game show at 6:30 p.m.
