St. Paul Saints News Release
LAKEVILLE, MN (June 6, 2011) - The Saints Sports Academy believes that Minnesota softball players shouldn't be at a disadvantage to players from western and southern states just because their fields are frozen several months out of the year. The Academy has developed a brand new, year-round program with that in mind.
With some of the best Division I and collegiate instructors and coaches in the Twin Cities, the Saints Sports Academy has created a year-round program that will help train softball players ages 10-18 and make them competitive as they take steps up the athletic ladder. The biggest benefits of the program involve working out inside the 32,000 square-foot Saints Sports Academy during winter months, playing on a team that will travel to tournaments across the U.S. and getting instruction and top-of-the-line video analysis from former and current softball players and coaches.
It will begin with a player evaluation and tryout at Midway Stadium, home of the St. Paul Saints at the end of July and mid-August. On Saturday, July 30 the 10U group evaluation will take place from 8:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m., 12U from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., 14U from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m., 16U from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. and 18 U from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. A second set of evaluations will take place on Saturday, August 13 with 10U from 8:00 a.m.-9:30 a.m., 12 U from 9:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m., 14U from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 16U from 12:30 p.m.-2:00 p.m. and 18U from 2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m..
Participants will be directed through an evaluation led by Saints Sports Academy Head Fastpitch Instructor and former All Big Ten Minnesota Gopher Shannon Stemper, plus other Saints Academy fastpitch coaching staff. Each player will be evaluated by position and will showcase their hitting, fielding, throwing, pitching and running abilities. All participants will receive a copy of their evaluation. Each participant will receive a Saints T-shirt and one general admission ticket to a St. Paul Saints game. The fee for participation is $60.
After the evaluation process, development teams will be formed in each age group and players will have the opportunity to train and compete against some of the best teams in the country. Those selected for the development teams that choose to participate will receive a one-year membership to the Saints Sports Academy in Lakeville, MN, a St. Paul Saints authentic team uniform for winter league play and state tournaments, weekly practices at the Saints Sports Academy, participation in the metro area winter league, scouting reports, video analysis, strength, agility and quickness training, and much more. Participation on the development team, including all of the amenities, is $1500 ($300 down + $100/month).
The Saints Sports Academy is an athletic training facility that focuses in developing young athletes in baseball, softball, football and soccer through individual and group instruction. The facility is also known for family fun events including Play Days, Birthday Parties and Summer Camps. The Saints Sports Academy is located at 9913 214th St. West, Lakeville, MN 55044.
