Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
Pointstreak selected Blake Gailen as the American Association's Hitter of the Week for the week ending June 5.
Gailen hit .615 in six games, clubbing three home runs, five doubles while scoring 10 runs and driving in nine. The Las Vegas resident posted a truly remarkable 1.841 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage) during the period.
"Blake has thrived at the top of our lineup this season," Saltdogs manager Marty Scott said. "The thing that impresses me most about him is how good of a hitter he is with two strikes."
The 26-year old lead-off hitter for the Saltdogs paces the league with a .466 batting average.
Gailen is in his fifth professional season out of UNLV and boasts a career average of .347. Last season for Chico he hit .387 and earned MVP honors in the Golden League championship series.
This is the first weekly league award earned by a Lincoln Saltdogs player this season. In 2010 Tim Brown, Shawn McGill, and Argelis Nuñez (twice) garnered league recognition as player of the week.
The Saltdogs are home at Haymarket Park all week, and kick off a four-game series with the Winnipeg Goldeyes tonight at 7:05 p.m. For more team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com .
