Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN - Time Warner Cable and the Lincoln Saltdogs are teaming up as sponsors of the Lincoln City Libraries' Summer Reading Program as part of Time Warner Cable's Connect a Million Minds initiative. Homer the Haymarket Hound and players from the Lincoln Saltdogs will visit the libraries, sign autographs and read to kids about baseball and the science behind the sport.
"As part of our long-time commitment to education, we're proud to partner with the Lincoln Saltdogs to support the Summer Reading Program," said Brandy Johnson, spokesperson for Time Warner Cable. "The Summer Reading Program is just one example of how to keep kids' minds engaged during the summer and inspire them to learn more."
Connect a Million Minds is Time Warner Cable's initiative to inspire students to pursue afterschool science, technology, engineering and math education. Through the Summer Reading Program theme "One World, Many Stories," kids are encouraged to read books with a focus on attitudes toward science around the world. In addition to the Summer Reading Program, many other summer learning opportunities can be found on "The Connectory," a zip-code searchable directory on www.connectamillionminds.com.
One of the many prizes available for participating in the Summer Reading Program is a ticket to a Lincoln Saltdogs baseball game at Haymarket Park. This year, kids will have their choice of three different Lincoln Saltdogs games.
Monday, July 11 vs. the Kansas City T-Bones
Tuesday, July 26 vs. the El Paso Diablos
Wednesday, August 10 vs. the Fargo-Moorhead Red Hawks
All the games begin at 7:05 p.m. and the gates open at 6:00 p.m. There is a pre-game parade held to recognize the kids who complete the Summer Reading Program beginning at 6:30 p.m. Each of these games are held on a special night at Haymarket Park. On Monday, Kids 12 and under eat free, Tuesday the first 1,000 fans receive free t-shirts and on Wednesday dogs get in free to the game to celebrate Bark in the Park night.
"The Lincoln Saltdogs are proud to partner again with Time Warner Cable and the Lincoln City Libraries for the Summer Reading Program," said Saltdogs president Charlie Meyer. "This is a great opportunity for the Lincoln Saltdogs organization to connect with kids and have our players give back to the Lincoln Community. We couldn't provide this great opportunity for kids in our community to come out to Saltdogs' games without the tremendous support of Time Warner Cable."
The Lincoln Saltdogs will be visiting the following libraries in June as part of this program:
Tuesday, June 7 - 10:30 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church near South Branch.
