St. Paul 9, Shreveport-Bossier 5

Monday's 9-5 St. Paul win over Shreveport-Bossier was anything but starved for offense. With pitchers challenging men at the plate all night ‚¬" there was just one walk in the entire contest ‚¬" the teams totaled 32 hits, nine of which advanced the batter beyond first base. Seven of those extra-base hits, however, belonged to St. Paul and were responsible for a third of the Saints' runs. St. Paul C Ricardo Mercado, was perfect on the night, going 5-5 with three runs and two RBI. Mercado also had three doubles on the night. Captains DH Palmer Karr Jr. and 1B Andres Rodriguez each went 3-5 with a run to lead the Shreveport-Bossier effort. But Mercado and the Saints were too much in the end.

Gary SouthShore 7, Sioux City 3

Most of the scoring in the RailCats' 7-3 victory over Sioux City was done in the first inning, with eight of the 10 total runs crossing home plate in that frame. The Explorers got off to a good start, it seemd. But the two runs they scored in the top of the first were nothing compared to the six the RailCats hammered out in the very next half-inning. From that point on, Explorers and RailCats pitching took over. Gary SouthShore C Mike Valadez went 2-4 with a run and two RBI. Both Valadez-produced runs came on a two-out single in the first that plated Craig Maddox and Mike Rohde. Starting RailCats pitcher Derrick Gordon picked up his second win of the season, throwing 6.1 innings and giving up three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out eight Sioux City batters. After the first inning, Explorers starting pitcher Nick Schumacher settled down, allowing just one more run on three hits in 4.2 more innings pitched.

Amarillo 5, Grand Prairie 4

Grand Prairie chipped away at an early 4-0 Amarilo lead, eventually tying the score in the fifth, but couldn't quite get over the hump. And when Sox LF Lee Cruz picked up his seventh home run of the season in the eighth inning, Amarillo's lead never again disappeared. Lee's round-tripper was his only hit of the night in four at-bats. Sox DH Tim Alberts accounted for most of his club's scoring, sending a three-run shot over the outfield wall in the second inning to give Amarillo its largest lead of the game. Sox relievers Chad Povich and Gary Perinar teamed up to earn the win and save, respectively, tossing three combined shutout innings, allowing just one hit and two walks with four total strikeouts. AirHogs 1B Greg Porter went 2-4 with a run and three RBI, bringing his season average up to .333.

Lincoln 5, Winnipeg 4

Monday night's contest between the Saltdogs and Goldeyes was neck-and-neck the whole way. With the only large lead ‚¬" a three-run advantage for Winnipeg after two-and-a-half innings ‚¬" swallowed up in Lincoln's next offensive opportunity. It was Lincoln' RF Curt Smith's inning-opening triple in the eighth that proved to be the decisive play, as Smith crossed home plate four batters later on a Vance Albitz fielder's choice. Smith went 2-4 with two runs scored. For Winnipeg, CF Kody Kaiser led the way, going 3-5 with a run and two RBI. SaltDogs reliever Nick Schreiber earned the win after throwing 1.2 late shutout innings, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out one ‚¬" Winnipeg's Victory Ferrante to end the eighth inning.

Fort Worth 8, El Paso 7 (In progress - Top 9)

Fort Worth leads El Paso, 8-7, in the top of the ninth inning. Cats nine hole-hitting 2B Jeremy Sauceda is 2-4 with a run and three RBI. El Paso is led by Gerardo Avila, who is 3-4 with a run and an RBI.
