Sens Howl Back in the Ninth for Win over SeaWolves

The Harrisburg Senators won a walk-off over the Erie SeaWolves 5-4 Wednesday night at FNB Field. The Senators trailed 4-2 in the ninth before scoring three runs to win the game.

Erie scored a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead. Dominic Ficociello drove in the first run with a single in the fourth and they scored a pair in the fifth on a run-scoring single by Willi Castro and a bases-loaded walk to Isaac Paredes.

Senators starting pitcher Logan Darnell worked five innings and allowed three runs on eight hits. Erie starter Matt Manning tossed six shutout innings in his Double-A debut.

Drew Ward put the Senators on the board in the seventh with a solo home run to left off the foul pole. After Erie took a 4-1 lead in with a run in the eighth, the Senators began their comeback in the bottom of the frame. With two runners on base, Raudy Read hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-2.

Austin Davidson led off the bottom of the ninth with a double. The next two-batters were retired before Osvaldo Abreu singled to right which closed the Erie lead to a single run. The next batter, Keller, blooped a single to left to put runners at first and second with two outs, setting the table for Carter Kieboom. Ahead in the count 1-0, Kieboom launched a pitch from Erie reliever John Schreiber into left-center field for a double which scored both the tying run and the winning run as the Senators walked-off with a 5-4 win.

"We were eliminated from playoff contention yesterday and that didn't stop them from fighting. All year long they've found a way to stay in it," Senators manager Matt LeCroy said. "We kept grinding and our better at bats later. We kept grinding in that ninth inning and got big hits."

The Senators 68th win is also their 13th walk-off victory this season, which is a franchise record.

"I told (the team) today that we need to try to get to 70 wins. That's a good number for us," LeCroy said. "They're putting themselves in a good spot. That's why we've had such a good club, because we don't ever quit."

"(13 walk-off wins) is difficult. Good teams usually are able to find a way. They fight and when you've got a good group, things like that happen."

Bryan Harper (2-1) pitched one and a third shutout innings of relief to earn the victory. Schreiber (3-7) took the loss after allowing three runs in the one inning.

The Senators play their final home in 2018 Thursday night at FNB Field as they wrap up four-game the series against the SeaWolves. Wil Crowe is slated to start for the Senators while Erie counters with starter Alex Faedo. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at FNB Field.
