Akron RubberDucks News Release
Bowie's Corban Joseph homered and drove in three runs, and Aderlin Rodriguez also homered and drove in two, as the Baysox won a slugfest against the Akron RubberDucks, 15-7, Wednesday night at Canal Park in Akron, Ohio.
Turning Point
The Baysox (65-68) rebounded from a 6-4 deficit to take the lead for good in the sixth. Joseph slugged a two-run homer off Preston Claiborne (0-1) to tie the game, 6-6. One batter later, Rodriguez went deep to left to give the Sox a 7-6 lead. It was the 21stof the year for Rodriguez and the 17thfor Joseph. Rylan Bannon added an RBI single later inning off right-hander Mitch Brown to make it 8-6.
Mound Presence
Neither starter fared well. Bowie ace Keegan Akin allowed six runs in his 4.2 innings. Akron's Matt Whitehouse was chased after giving up three earned runs in 2.2 innings. Bowie lefty Chris Lee (1-0) picked up the win in relief despite giving up a two-run double to Sam Haggerty in the fifth to give the Ducks a brief 6-4 lead.
Duck Tales
The Baysox built a 4-0 lead, but the RubberDucks rallied with four runs in the fourth against Akin. Mark Mathias slugged a two-run homer, and Ka'ai Tom and Alexis Pantoja each chipped in RBI singles. The whole rally started after two men were out. Jodd Carter land Haggerty led the Akron offense with three hits apiece.
Notebook
The veteran Claiborne was making his Akron debut and his first action since injuring his elbow in early April while pitching for Triple-A Columbus...The Ducks ran out of pitchers so Pantoja and catcher Daniel Salters were forced into emergency relief roles...Pantoja gave up five runs in the eighth, including a three-run homer to Ademar Rifaela...Salters tossed a scoreless ninth...Altoona lost at home to Trenton, 5-0, so the Ducks and Curve remain tied atop the EL West with five games to play...The teams combined for 30 hits...Time of game: 3:25... Attendance: 4,000.
On the Pond
The RubberDucks and Baysox will conclude the series and homestand Thursday at 7:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM, the WARF iHeart channel, and the TuneIn Radio App.
