Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Harrisburg Senators continued their doubleheader magic on Saturday night in New Britain with a sweep of the two games by scores of 11-3 and 9-3. The Sens have now swept four consecutive doubleheaders and have won ten straight doubleheader games. They also move to 47-33 on the season. It's the first time they're 14 games over .500 since the end of the 2002 season when they finished 79-63.
Harrisburg pounded out 23 hits in the two games with 13 of the hits of the extra-base variety. The Senators had 10 doubles in the two games with Chris Rahl leading the way, hitting three. They also hit three home runs in game two, with Bill Rhinehart hitting a three-run home run, Tyler Moore a solo shot and Archie Gilbert a two-run home run. Moore now has 15 home runs, Rhinehart 14, and Gilbert 10.
In game one, the Sens offense exploded for 10 runs in the first three innings. Josh Johnson and Archie Gilbert both had three hits in game one. Tyler Moore had three RBIs with a sacrifice fly and a single. Johnson, Bill Rhinehart and Chris Rahl all chipped in with two RBIs. Harrisburg equaled a season-high in runs and doubles in game one.
Erik Davis started and pitched all seven innings in game one. It is the second complete game of the season for the Senators. Davis allowed 10 hits but didn't walk a batter and he struck out four.
The Senators fell behind in game two 2-0 after one. They scored an unearned run in the second inning to trim the deficit to 2-1. In the third, the Sens had two on and no outs when Bill Rhinehart launched a three-run home run giving the Sens a 4-2 lead. Tyler Moore's HR in the fourth gave them a 5-2 lead. Archie Gilbert capped the scoring in the seventh with a two-run shot to left.
Oliver Perez started and was lifted with two-outs in the fifth inning and the bases loaded. Carlos Martinez came on and allowed a run on a wild pitch but pitched out of trouble with a strikeout. Martinez earned his first win on the season for the Senators. Hassan Pena pitched a scoreless seventh for the Sens.
