Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - The Altoona Curve are pulling out all the stops to help our nation celebrate its birthday when they play host to the Akron Aeros at 7 p.m. on Monday night. The Independence Day contest will be the first that the club has hosted at home since 2009 when they took on the Bowie Baysox at BCB.

The festivities for the special game will be noticed by fans as soon as they arrive at BCB as the Harmony Safari quartet will be performing up at the main gate from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to give the game that throwback Americana feel.

National recording artist Jim Worthing will be singing the National Anthem, God Bless America and also provide a special salute to our military servicemen and women prior to the postgame fireworks spectacular. Worthing has appeared on the Grand Ole Opry, Grand Ole Opry Backstage Show, Prime Time Country, Nashville Now, Crook & Chase, Music City News/TNN Awards Show and Canadian TV when he served as the lead singer of the Cumberland Boys.

There will also be a special, ceremonial first pitch to get the game going on Monday night as retired United States Air Force Sergeant Kenneth McCracken, Sr. will do the honors. McCracken, 87, is a Lewistown native who now resides in Altoona. During his time of service, McCracken executed 15 bombing missions during World War II and is also a surviving Prisoner of War.

On the field during the game with Akron, the Curve will wear a special edition 2011 Stars and Stripes Cap with the American flag etched into the team's "Keystone A" logo. These caps will be auctioned off as part of a "Hats off the Head" silent auction that will take place during the game with proceeds benefitting the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. A limited number of the caps will be available for purchase in The Stockyard but they will only be made available during the game once gates open.

The night will conclude with kids running the bases and a huge postgame fireworks show thanks to the Pennsylvania Lottery.

With all the events taking place on Monday night, gates will open up earlier than normal to allow fans ample time to make their way to Curve, Pa. Season ticket holder gates will swing open at 5:30 p.m. while regular gates will open up at 5:45 p.m.

Fans that are looking for that picnic feel for their Fourth of July can find it at BCB as the Curve are offering individual picnic tickets for Monday night's game with Akron. The two hour, all-you-can-eat buffet in the U.S. Foodservice Picnic Pavilion will be $22.50 for adults and $17.50 for children. Season ticket holders may upgrade for $15.50 for adults and $11.50 for children.

Curve fans are encouraged to allow extra time when driving to Blair County Ballpark as a large crowd is expected on Monday night between the events at BCB and Lakemont Park.

Good seats remain for the Fourth of July contest on Monday night but are going fast. The box office windows at BCB have special hours today, Saturday, July 2nd, and will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to accommodate fans who'd like to purchase their tickets in person. Those looking to purchase tickets can also call 877.99.CURVE or visit www.AltoonaCurve.com to buy their seats for any Curve game.
