Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Harrisburg Senators finished off their three-game sweep of the Trenton Thunder on Saturday night with an 8-2 win. The Senators combined outstanding pitching with solid hitting and won for the third straight game and fifth time in their last six starts.

Brad Meyers started and made it easy on the offense, allowing just two runs and striking out ten for the second time this year. Meyers has yet to walk a batter in four outings this season. He struck out two batters in an inning on four separate occasions. Cory VanAllen and Ryan Mattheus went the final two and a third innings and combined to strike out four.

Offensively the Senators were led by Archie Gilbert. Gilbert had four hits, one his first home run on the season, scored four runs, and drove in two as he raised his batting average about 90 points. Tyler Moore also hit his first home run on the season and had two hits while raising his average to .237. Moore has a season-high nine-game hitting streak.

Steve Lombardozzi had two hits and drove in two with a bases loaded single. Josh Johnson also had two hits in the ballgame. The eight runs and 12 hits matches the Senators season highs in both categories.

With the win, the Senators move over .500 and to 8-7 on the season while the Trenton Thunder drop to 7-9.

After an off-day on Sunday for Easter, the Senators are back in action on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. with the first game of a four-game series against the Altoona Curve at Metro Bank Park. The game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and on your ipad or iphone beginning at 6:45 p.m.
