TONIGHT: The Richmond Flying Squirrels and Altoona Curve will meet in the finale of a three-game series...The Curve overcame a five-run deficit to force extra innings and plated six runs in the top of the 15th to defeat the Flying Squirrels 11-5 in front of 3,228 fans on Friday night at The Diamond.
TONIGHT'S STARTERS: Left-hander Ryan Verdugo gets the start in the series finale for the Flying Squirrels...Enters the 2011 season rated as the #25 prospect in the San Francisco Giants farm system according to Baseball America...Received a no-decision in his last start 4/18 at Trenton...Allowed five hits over 5 1/3 scoreless innings...Struck out seven batters and walked one...All five hits allowed were singles...Did not allow a runner to advance past second base...Retired the leadoff batter in three of his six innings on the mound...Recorded four fly outs and three ground outs...Threw 79 pitches, 52 strikes...Threw 14 pitches or more in four of the six innings he pitched in...Threw first-pitch strikes to 14 of the 20 batters that he faced...Set single-game career-highs for longest outing (5.1 IP), most strikeouts (7), and most hits allowed (5)...Three of the five hits he allowed came against left-handed batters (6-for-15 total)...Left-handed batters were just 2-for-28 against him in 22 games with Advanced-A San Jose in 2010...Has not allowed a run in 7 1/3 innings, the longest active scoreless innings streak on the Flying Squirrels pitching staff...Went a combined 8-1 with a 1.87 ERA in 44 games, including one start, with Low-A Augusta and San Jose...Suffered the lone loss in his pro career 4/29/10 at Hagerstown...Pitched with Scottsdale in the Arizona Fall League in 2010...Went 4-1 with a 2.45 ERA in seven starts while striking out 26 batters and walking 16...Began the 2009 season in Extended Spring Training...Went 4-0 with a 1.27 ERA in 23 games with the AZL Giants and Low-A Augusta...Selected in the 9th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft...Attended LSU and Skagit Valley (WA) College.

RUBBER MATCH: The Flying Squirrels and Curve meet in the rubber match of a three-game series...Richmond lost the rubber match of a rain-shortened series at Altoona 4/17...The club is 0-4 in series finales this season.
THE RICHMOND MARATHON: Last night's 15-inning, 4:41 game was the longest in Flying Squirrels franchise history...Richmond played 14 innings twice last season (4/13/10 at Altoona, 8/11/10 vs. New Hampshire)...The previous longest game in terms of time was 4:18 minutes 7/28 against Reading...The longest game in Curve franchise history is 19 innings, which has occurred twice including 8/13/10 against New Hampshire (won 4-3).
SALTED AWAY: The Flying Squirrels blew five-run lead after leading the Curve 5-0 after five innings...It was the largest blown lead in the club's two-year franchise history...It was the fourth blown lead for the club in the last six games...Last night was Richmond's first loss when leading after eight innings (6-1).
BIG INNING: The Flying Squirrels again matched their season-high for most runs scored in an inning as the club send nine batters to the plate and scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning last night...Richmond collected five hits in the inning, a new season-high...The club has scored 12 runs (8 in two innings) in the first two games against Altoona after scoring 12 runs total on its recent six-game road trip.
SWING AND A MISS: Outfielder Mike McBryde struck out a career-high four times in last night's 15-inning loss to Altoona...It was the most strikeouts in a game by a Flying Squirrels' batter this season, and it equaled the franchise mark (Roger Kieschnick 5/3/10 vs. Altoona, Sklyer Stromsmoe 6/6/10 at Trenton)...Richmond struck out a season-high 17 times in 50 at-bats last night.
WALK AWAY: The Flying Squirrels drew nine walks in last night's game, the most in a single game this season...Through the first two games of the series with Altoona, Richmond has walked 14 times...The club walked just 18 times in its first 13 games...The Flying Squirrels' 32 walks as a team are still the fewest in the Eastern League.
CATCHING ON: Catcher Johnny Monell threw out one of two attempted base stealers last night...He and Aaron Lowenstein have combined to throw out 10-of-23 would-be base stealers and their .435 percentage leads the Eastern League...Monell and Lowenstein are tied with New Hampshire's Travis d'Arnaud for second in the Eastern League for most base runners thrown out (5)...In addtion, Flying Squirrels pitchers have picked off six base runners including Osiris Matos picking off Tony Sanchez in the top of the 12th inning.
