Akron RubberDucks News Release
AKRON, OH - The Akron Aeros were three-hit by Reading Phillies starter J.C. Ramirez and dropped the finale of a three-game series 4-0 Sunday at Canal Park.
The finale was a seven-inning contest and was played following the continuation of Friday's game between the two clubs.
Ramirez pitched all seven innings for the R-Phils to pick up his third win of 2011 striking out four and walking one.
Kelvin De La Cruz was saddled with the loss for the Aeros pitching six innings, giving up four earned runs on five hits, walking two and striking out six.
The R-Phils (11-5) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a Derrick Mitchell RBI single that scored Cody Overbeck.
Reading added three more off De La Cruz in the top of the fourth inning. Overbeck led off the frame with a single. Later in the inning, Mitchell advanced Overbeck to third on single. Following a Steve Susdorf strikeout and a Fidel Hernandez walk, Tim Kennelly hit a 3-RBI triple just out of the reach of a diving Donnie Webb to give the R-Phils some breathing room.
The four-run lead was enough for Ramirez as the R-Phils won their second straight series over the Aeros this season.
The Aeros (8-9) have an off day Sunday and will begin a four-game series with the Bowie Baysox Monday night at Canal Park. The Aeros will send righty Austin Adams to the mound. Adams is 1-1 with a 2.30 ERA in 2011. He is 0-1 with a 0.00 ERA in one career start against Bowie. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard on Fox Sports 1350 AM or online at sportsradio1350.com. Coverage begins at 6:50 p.m.
Monday is also a Charity Begins at Home night supporting Akron Aeros charities.
