
Second Unit Helps South Bay Hand Memphis First Loss of Season

EL SEGUNDO - The South Bay Lakers ended the longest undefeated start to a season in NBA G League history as they beat the Memphis Hustle, 125-118, on Saturday night. The second unit for South Bay (6-5) combined for 74 points, led by 22 from Andre Ingram. Memphis (10-1) was led by 28 points from Dusty Hannahs.
Talen Horton-Tucker couldn't miss in the first quarter, making all four of his shots en route to eight points, but Memphis gained a 31-30 advantage after one, as Marquis Teague scored eight of his own. The Lakers had a season-best 13 assists in the opening frame. South Bay's bench scored 17 points in the second quarter and guided the home team to a 59-56 halftime lead.
Ingram scored 12 points in the third quarter, including a perfect 3-of-3 from three-point range, to give the Lakers a 97-81 lead through three. The Hustle fought back in the fourth, even momentarily gaining a three-point advantage, but the Lakers outscored their opponent by 10 in the last three minutes to secure the home victory.
Hannahs finished with 28 points, including 5-of-11 from beyond the arc, and Josh Jackson finished with 21 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals before fouling out. Matt Mooney scored 19 points and Jarrod Uthoff ended the night with 12 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two blocks. Off the bench, Ahmad Caver scored 15 points and Teague tallied 13 points and seven assists.
Ingram shot 8-of-14 from the field toward his team-high 22 points and Devontae Cacok tallied his ninth double-double with 14 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Norvell Jr. finished with 21 points, three rebounds and a career-high seven assists. Reggie Hearn also reached double digits off the bench with 15 points. Kostas Antetokounmpo paced the starters with 16 points and Horton-Tucker finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Gary Payton II recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 14 points, eight rebounds and a season-best 11 assists. The Lakers improved to 4-0 when they hold their opponent under 40 percent shooting from the floor.
South Bay next hosts the Santa Cruz Warriors and South Bay's all-time leading scorer Vander Blue on Tuesday, December 10 at 7:00pm from the UCLA Health Training Center.
