CEDAR PARK, Texas (Dec. 7, 2019) - The Austin Spurs (6-6), presented by SWBC, fell to the Iowa Wolves (6-5) by a final score of 128-115 on Saturday night at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park for Spurs Affiliate night.
San Antonio Spurs assignee Keldon Johnson led the Spurs in scoring with 25 points (9-13 FG, 1-1 3FG, 3-5 FT) in 27 minutes, while Spurs assignee Chimezie Metu finished with 21 points (9-14 FG, 1-2 3FG, 1-1 FT) and 8 rebounds in 25 minutes. Dedric Lawson posted a near double-double with 16 points and 9 rebounds in 23 minutes coming off the bench. Spurs assignee Luka Samanic recorded 11 points in 26 minutes, while Quinndary Weatherspoon also finished in double figures with 12 points in 27 minutes.
In the first half, the Spurs and Wolves scored a combined 143 points. During that time, the score was tied eight times and the lead changed 12 times. The two teams scored 34 points each in the first quarter, while the Wolves outscored the Spurs 38 to 37 in the second quarter, giving the Wolves a 72-71 lead going into the half. As a team, the Spurs shot .614 (27-44) from the field, .462 (6-13) from the three-point line and .857 (6-7) from the free-throw line.
Johnson paced the Spurs in the second half, scoring 17 of his 25 points. The Wolves pulled away in the second outscoring Austin 56-44 to come away with the victory.
For the Wolves, Minnesota Timberwolves assignee Jaylen Nowell led all scorers with 27 points (9-5 FG, 4-5 3FG, 2-2 FT) to go along with 8 rebounds and 6 assists in 36 minutes. Four other Wolves players also scored in double figures, including Lindell Wigginton (23), Jordan McLaughlin (22), Jordan Murphy (21) and Kelan Martin (20).
