Second Annual Kernels Foundation Benefit 5K Run/Walk

The 2nd Annual Kernels Foundation Benefit 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2006 at 8:00am. The event is open to all ages and, in addition to the youth of eastern Iowa who will directly benefit from the proceeds, everybody will be a winner.

Each participant will receive a ticket to the game that evening against the Fort Wayne Wizards. The game starts at 7:00pm with gates opening at 6:00pm. Fireworks will follow the game.

To sign up for the event, please fill out the attached form and mail your registration form along with the check to:

or stop in the Bimm Ridder Diamond Shop located at the stadium, open Monday-Friday 10:00am-5:00pm and Saturdays 10:00am-2:00pm. Register before the event for only $20 if you would like a t-shirt or $12 without a t-shirt, or register the day of the event for $25 if you would like a t-shirt or $15 without a t-shirt.

You may pick up your packet from the Bimm Ridder Diamond Shop located at the stadium, Friday, June 9th, 2006 from 10:00am-5:00pm or on the day of the race from 6:30am-7:45am.

The first place male and female finishers will both win $200, with second and third place finishers receiving gift certificates. Trophies will go to the top three overall finishers, the top finisher in each age group, and to the top male and female walkers.

Following the awards ceremony, there will be door prize drawings for gift certificates to local businesses and Cedar Rapids Kernels memorabilia.

The run/walk course will begin at the stadium at 8:00 AM, wind through neighboring streets, and finish inside Veterans Memorial Stadium on the outfield warning track. The event will be followed by an awards ceremony to recognize the top runners/walkers. Participants can enjoy free food and beverages after the race while waiting for the awards ceremony to begin.

The vision and purpose of the Foundation is to ensure that all youth in eastern Iowa have the opportunity to experience the thrills and life-enhancing lessons that come from engaging in athletics and recreational activities. Net proceeds from this event will go to the Kernels Foundation.
