Devil Rays Show No Signs of Slowing Down

Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release


The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays defeated the Clinton LumberKings again tonight by a score of 11-3. This win gives the Devil Rays five straight and ten of twelve bringing their record to 18-14.

Although the pitching was once again impressive, the hitting was phenomenal. The Devil Rays tallied 14 hits, including four doubles and a home run. The D-Rays dominated the game from start to finish, scoring runs in five different innings.

In the fourth inning, the Rays batted around the order and scored seven runs off of five hits and plenty of help from the LumberKings. Clinton put runners on with two errors and a hit batter. Christian Lopez singled to lead off the inning and singled again later in the frame. John Matulia scored on a balk when he was on third base and Rhyne Hughes hit a three-run home run.

Garrett Groce had another impressive performance at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI, three runs scored and a walk. Hughes tallied four RBI's for the night with a double and a home run. Matulia, Lopez, and Walton each recorded two hit in the rout.

Jake McGee took the mound and got the win for the D-Rays, bringing his record to 3-4. McGee allowed five hits and two earned runs with seven strikeouts in six innings of work.

Kevin Lynn came in to relieve McGee and pitched two perfect innings while fanning four LumberKings. Drew Bigda closed out the game in the ninth, allowing one hit with two strikeouts.

The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays will face off against the LumberKings again Wednesday morning at 11:05 am.
