Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release

Major League Baseball Advanced Media, the of.cial statisticians for Minor League Baseball, has selected Cedar Rapids pitcher Robert Mosebach as the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 7. Reds prospect B. J. Szymanski of Dayton was named Offensive Player of the Week.

Mosebach was downright stellar in his two outings for the Kernels at Veterans Memorial Stadium last week, beginning with a masterful performance on May 1st when he scattered seven hits over eight shutout innings as the Kernels defeated the South Bend Silver Hawks 6-0. The eight inning stint was the longest of the season by a Kernels starter.

The West Palm Beach, FL, native followed up last Monday's outing by turning in another quality start on May 7th against Wisconsin. The right-hander surrendered just two earned runs over six innings and got the win as the Kernels held on to down the Timber Rattlers 6-5.

For the week Mosebach was 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA in 14 innings of work. He gave up 15 hits and just three runs while fanning 10 and walking just two.

On the year the 2005 9th round draft pick is 3-0 with a 1.77 ERA through six starts and ranks sixth in the league's pitching Top 10. Mosebach is the .rst Kernels pitcher to earn the honor since Rafael Rodriguez took home the award for the week ending June 18, 2005. Rodriguez is currently with the Angels' Double-A af.liate in Little Rock, AR.

'Moose' will make his next start for the Kernels on Friday when the team opens a four-game series at Clinton's newly renovated Alliant Energy Field. Game time for that contest against the Texas Rangers minor leaguers is set for 6:00 p.m. The Kernels are currently in the middle of a four-game series with the Dayton Dragons at Fifth Third Field.
