Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING - For the second straight night, seven runs were scored in the fifth inning at Oldsmobile Park. This time it was Kane County's turn as the Cougars plated seven runs in the inning en route to a 8-3 win over the Lansing Lugnuts on Tuesday night.
The Cougars broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth when Justin Sellers singled home Wes Long to make the score 2-1. After a bunt single, Nack Blasi roped a two run double down the left field line to push the lead to 4-1. Jeff Baisley and Wes Long also added RBI singles in the inning to make it 8-1 as Kane County chased the Lugnuts' Chi-hung Cheng from the game.
Cheng gave up six runs on ten hits in the loss in just over four innings. The loss breaks his personal four game winning streak.
Lansing's offense struggled throughout the game, mustering six hits one night after scoring nine runs. Brian Pettway did smack his seventh homer of the season in the sixth. The ball hit the concourse beyond the berm in left field and one-hopped out of the stadium onto Cedar Street.
Vince Mazzaro notched his third win of the year for Kane County after throwing five innings while scattering three hits. The only run to score against him was unearned.
Lansing (20-12) and Kane County (18-14) will play the third game of the four game series on Wednesday morning. It will be a Grand Slam School Day at Oldsmobile Park with first pitch set for 10:35 a.m. Kristian Bell (2-1, 4.22 ERA) will take the mound for the Lugnuts while Jeffrey Gray (2-2, 6.75 ERA) will throw for the Cougars.
