South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
South Bend - The Burlington Bees pitchers were not able to hold off a South Bend Silver Hawks comeback Monday night, but Tuesday, they were able to scatter six hits, while the hitters scored lone runs in the third and sixth innings, shutting out the Hawks 2-0 to capture the second game of their four game set.
Burlington scored the only run it needed in the third inning. Ethien Santana started the frame with a single to right-center field. Josh Johnson's ground out moved Santana to second and Chris McConnell's single to right-center field plated Santana tom give the Bees a 1-0 lead after their first two at-bats.
Burlington (12-20) increased its lead in the sixth. With two out, Mario Lisson doubled to right, stole third base and scored on a wild pitch by Silver Hawks starting hurler Anthony Cupps giving the Bees a 2-0 lead they would hold on to.
Michael Penn (1-1) gets the win and Hawks starter Anthony Cupps (1-3) suffers the loss.
The Silver Hawks (14-18) continue their four game set with Burlington with first pitch scheduled for 10:30 AM and gates opening at 9:30 AM. Wednesday is the final D.A.R.E Day of 2006. D.A.R.E. Day allows the Silver Hawks to host area schools as well as educate on drug awareness and resistance.
