Justice powers comeback

COMSTOCK PARK - Justin Justice put the Whitecaps on top with a three-run triple in the bottom of the sixth inning as West Michigan went on to beat Beloit 8-5.

Justice had triples in two consecutive at bats and tied a team record with two triples in a game, which has occurred 12 times and was last matched by Kody Kirkland on August 4, 2004. In the third inning, Justice hit a ground rule double to left center and finished 3-for-4 with 4 RBI.

Beloit took an early 4-1 lead off starting pitcher Luke French who allowed four runs (3 ER) on seven hits in four innings of work. Jay Sborz picked up the victory for the Whitecaps by throwing 2.1 innings with one run allowed on three hits and two walks.

Pedro Cotto had his second consecutive three-hit game for West Michigan. He went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Matt Joyce was 2-for-4, but Dusty Ryan went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts to end his 18-game on base streak.

Edward Ovalle (2-for-4) and Andrew Thompson (3-for-4) each tripled for Beloit. Ovalle scored twice on wild pitches.

Orlando Perdomo retired the Snappers in order in the ninth and picked up his Midwest League-leading 11th save.

Maybin Watch: Tigers top draft pick (2005) Cameron Maybin did not play in Tuesday's game.
