SeaWolves Walk off on Squirrels Again to Take Series

e SeaWolves (19-16) walked off on the Richmond Flying Squirrels (12-23) for the second day at UPMC Park, taking the series finale 6-5.

e SeaWolves broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning against Richmond starter Alfred Gutierrez. Josh Lester doubled off the wall in left center and scored on a Daniel Pinero double down the left field line for a 1-0 lead.

Erie starter Casey Mize began his day firing five scoreless innings before the Squirrels were able to muster offense in the top of the sixth. Jalen Miller doubled with one out and Jacob Heyward connected on an opposite-field, two-run home run for a 2-1 Richmond lead. Jonah Arenado walked and Gio Brusa belted the second two-run home run of the inning for a 4-1 Squirrels advantage.

e SeaWolves quickly answered in the last of the sixth inning. Isaac Paredes led off with a single and Josh Lester walked, setting the table for Pinero. Pinero connected on an opposite-field, three-run home run off of reliever Sandro Cabrera, tying the game 4-4.

Erie regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning when Chace Numata blasted a solo home run, his first, off of the top of Erie Insurance Arena for a 5-4 lead.

Richmond got the run back in the top of the eighth against Erie reliever Mark Ecker. Heyward led off with an opposite-field double. Ecker walked Brusa and Jin-De Jhang to load the bases. e 'Wolves summoned Will Vest who got the final two outs of the inning, but not before the Squirrels tied the game on a groundout making it 5-5.

Vest went on to hurl a scoreless top of the ninth inning, setting the table for a second straight walk-off for the SeaWolves.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Luke Burch led off and drew a walk against Squirrels reliever Melvin Adon. With one out, Paredes doubled off the wall in left to put the winning run on third base. Richmond elected to walk Lester to set up a force at any base. Pinero stepped in with a chance for the game winning hit. With Pinero batting, Adon threw a wild pitch that brought home Burch, giving Erie the victory.

Vest (1-1) earned the win in relief tossing 1.2 scoreless frames.

Mize took his second straight no-decision. He allowed four runs on six hits with two walks while tying a career-high with eight strikeouts.

e win improved the SeaWolves to 6-0 in rubber games of series.

e SeaWolves hit the road for a seven-game road trip beginning on ursday night against Bowie at 6:35 p.m. Righty Matt Manning (3-2, 2.40 ERA) takes the mound for the SeaWolves against LHP Bruce Zimmerman (1-1, 2.53 ERA).
