
SeaWolves Sweep Senators

The SeaWolves battled the rain on Sunday afternoon in Harrisburg, but prevailed with a series sweep over the Senators following a 5-1 win in a rain-shortened game. It was the SeaWolves first series sweep on the road this season.
The SeaWolves struck first in the top of the first inning against Harrisburg starter Shairon Martis. Brandon Douglas singled to left extending his hitting streak to a season-best 10 consecutive games. Douglas has also hit safely in 15 of his last 16 games. He then stole second and was doubled home by Justin Henry for a 1-0 Erie lead.
The 'Wolves extended the lead in the top of the eighth. Reliever Jimmy Barthmaier started the inning and gave up a one-out single to Bryan Pounds, extending his hit streak to eight straight. The Sens went to the bullpen and brought in lefty Pat McCoy to face Deik Scram. Scram was hit by a pitch putting two on base for Cale Iorg. Iorg singled through the left side, scoring Pounds for a 2-0 lead. An error on the play by Archie Gilbert in left put Scram on third and Iorg on second. Harrisburg turned to the pen again, bringing in Hassan Pena to face Michael Rockett. Rockett singled home a pair for a 4-0 'Wolves advantage.
Harrisburg got on the board in the bottom of the eighth against reliever Rob Waite. Adam Fox led off with a double and moved to third on a Stephen King groundout. Fox scored on a Josh Johnson groundout making it 4-1.
The 'Wolves responded in the top of the ninth, going back ahead by four runs. Douglas stepped in with one out and sent a fly ball to center. Centerfielder Chris Rahl dropped the ball and Douglas landed at third base. Henry singled home Douglas for his second RBI of the game and a 5-1 Erie lead.
Voss (9-6) worked five shutout innings before being lifted because of a rain delay. He got into trouble in the bottom of the first inning but battled through and finished his outing retiring the final 13 batters he faced. Voss equaled a season and career-high with eight strikeouts. He has won four of his last five starts. Voss now leads the 'Wolves with nine wins.
The Erie starting pitchers did not allow a run in the series and the pitching staff overall allowed two runs over the three-games.
The SeaWolves continue the road trip on Monday night at NYSEG Stadium, beginning a three-game series with the Binghamton Mets.6:35 First Pitch. Lefty Drew Smyly (3-1, 1.23 ERA) takes the mound for the SeaWolves against RHP Matt Harvey (3-3, 5.04 ERA).
