Senators Swept by Erie, Fall 5-1 on Sunday

The Erie SeaWolves finished off a three-game weekend sweep of the Senators on Sunday afternoon with a 5-1 win over the Senators. The game was delayed twice by rain before being called after the top of the ninth inning.

Harrisburg scored just two runs in the weekend series, a solo home run on Friday night by Tyler Moore and then on Sunday afternoon Adam Fox scored in the eighth inning on a ground out off the bat of Josh Johnson.

Erie took a 1-0 lead in the first and then after the first delay ended, scored three two-out runs in the eighth inning to take a 4-0 lead.

Shairon Martis and pitched 5.1 innings and leaving after the 1:07 rain delay. He struck out eight and allowed just one hit and one run, but fell to 7-5 as he was the tough luck losing pitcher. Jay Voss was the winner for Erie, pitching five innings and striking out eight while allowing just two hits. Prior to leaving because of the rain delay, he retired the final 13 batters he faced.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Josh Johnson doubled and Archie Gilbert singled, sending Johnson to third. Gilbert then stole second setting the Senators up with runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs, but the Senators wouldn't take advantage of the situation, eventually stranding the bases loaded.

The Senators now hit the road for the final time as they open a three-game series in Portland Monday night at 7:00 p.m. with RH Tanner Roark on the mound for the Sens against RH Chris Balcom-Miller for Portland.
