R-Phils Own Second Place, Move Closer to First

August 21, 2011 - Eastern League (EL1)
Reading Fightin Phils News Release

The R-Phils concluded their six-day, seven-game homestand with a 3-1 win over the Altoona Curve, to earn the three-game sweep. Tyler Cloyd struck-out 10 over seven scoreless innings and Reading finished with a 5-2 record on their six-day, seven-game homestand.

With the victory, and a New Hampshire loss, Reading pulled to four games back in the Eastern Division.

New Hampshire, who entered their game against New Britain on Sunday with a five game-lead over the R-Phils in the standings, lost again. The Fisher Cats were swept by New Britain, after falling 8-5 on Sunday.

As for New Britain (64-63), they have now won three-straight games - all three coming against first-place New Hampshire. The three-game series sweep helped propel New Britain to just five games back of the Fisher Cats. New Britain will now host the R-Phils for a three-game series beginning on Monday.

The Thunder were set to host Bowie in the finale of their three-game series, but Mother Nature just would not cooperate. The 5:05 p.m. game was delayed from the start due to inclement weather, and after three separate rain delays totaling two hours and 29 minutes, the game was called. The game was declared "no game" and will be replayed in its entirety at a later date.
