Portland Sea Dogs News Release
Portland, Maine- The Sea Dogs hit three home runs and Brock Huntzinger struck out a career high 11 batters but it was not enough. Mets catcher Jean Luc Blaquiere hit a two run homer in the eighth inning to lift the Mets to a 7-6 win and the three game series sweep over the Portland Sea Dogs Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field. The Mets (56-71) and Sea Dogs (53-74) split the season series with ten wins apiece.
Tied at five in the eighth, Blaquiere lifted a ball into the 15 mph winds blowing out that carried the ball out of the ballpark off Kyle Fernandes as the Mets took a 7-5 lead. Fernandes (2-5) suffered the loss allowing two runs on three hits in two innings on the mound.
Jon Hee launched his fourth home run in the bottom of the eighth to bring the Sea Dogs within a run.
The Mets opened a 4-1 lead scoring a pair of runs in the second and third innings highlighted by a Eric Campbell RBI single in the second and Brahiam Maldonado RBI double in the third.
Reynaldo Rodriguez hit his seventh home run in 34 games, a solo shot to left-center field in the fourth inning to cut the lead in half.
The Sea Dogs put together a two out rally in the fifth, Mark Wagner doubled and Rodriguez singled when Jeremy Hazelbaker swatted a three run homer off the video board to give the Sea Dogs a 5-4 lead.
The lead would be short lived as Dusty Ryan tied the game with a home run off Portland starter Brock Huntzinger.
Huntzinger notched career high 11 strikeouts in his six inning effort. He allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits and walked a batter. He did not factor into the decision. He now leads the team with 109 strikeouts on the season.
Brad Holt (6-7) earned the win allowing one run on three hits in 3.1 innings on the hill. Rhiner Cruz earned his fifth save tossing a scoreless ninth.
Alex Hassan had his nine game hit streak snapped with a 0-for-5 performance.
Hazalebaker stole his 30th base with the Sea Dogs in the second inning; he now has 42 for the season between Single-A Salem and Portland. He is the first Red Sox affiliated Sea Dog to hit the 30 stolen base mark.
The Sea Dogs welcome the Harrisburg Senators (Nationals) to town Monday night at 7:00 PM. Right-handed pitcher Chris Balcom-Miller (3-6, 5.26) will get the start for Portland. He will be opposed by Harrisburg righty Tanner Roark (8-8, 5.23). The first 1,000 fans through the gate on Monday will receive a Ryan Kalish bobblehead doll, courtesy of Northeast Delta Dental.
