
SeaWolves Sweep Doubleheader from Curve

Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves, behind a complete game from starter Warwick Saupold, took down the Altoona Curve 8-4 in game one of Tuesday night's doubleheader.
Erie jumped ahead in the top of the first inning against Curve starter Zack Dodson. Jamie Johnson and Devon Travis each singled. Devon Travis doubled home Johnson for a 1-0 lead. Steven Moya followed and crushed his 22nd home run of the season. The three-run blast made it 4-0 SeaWolves after one inning.
Altoona came back against Saupold in the bottom of the fourth. Keon Broxton walked and Willy Garcia singled putting runners on the corners. With Gift Ngoepe batting, a Craig Albernaz throw to attempt to pick off Garcia at first went into right field, the result was Broxton scoring and moving Garcia to third. Gift Ngoepe singled home Garcia and advanced on a throwing error into scoring position. Alen Hanson singled and Drew Maggi was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Elias Diaz followed and grounded to short, an error by Dixon Macahdo plated a third run. The Curve tied the game on a Matt Curry sacrifice fly, plating Hanson.
Erie jumped right back ahead in the fourth. They loaded the bases on back-to-back singles from Francisco Martinez and Dean Green. An error by third baseman Dan Gamache on a ball of the bat of Machado loaded the bases. Albernaz lined a double to third that was knocked down by Gamache. Gamache could not make a play and an infield single scored Martinez for a 5-4 lead. Johnson followed and lifted a sacrifice fly to left, plating Green for a 6-4 lead. Travis walked to reload the bases and with two outs, Moya and Ramon Cabrera drew back-to-back walks to extend the lead to 8-4.
Saupold (5-8) would settle down following the four-run inning and shut out the Curve the remainder of the game, earning the win. It was his second complete game of the season. He allowed four runs on four hits with four walks while equaling a career-high with eight strikeouts. Saupold has struck out eight in consecutive starts and has won back-to-back starts.
GAME TWO
The SeaWolves completed a doubleheader sweep with an 11-5 win in game two on Tuesday night in Altoona.
Erie jumped ahead in the third against Curve starter Tom Harlan. Marcus Lemon singled and moved to second on a Jamie Johnson sacrifice bunt. Corey Jones was hit by a pitch putting two on for Devon Travis. Travis hit into a fielder's choice putting runners on the corners for Steven Moya. A passed ball scored Lemon and pushed Travis into scoring position. Moya laced an opposite-field single, plating Travis for a 2-0 lead.
Altoona tied the game against Erie spot starter Ryan Robowski in the fourth. Carlos Paulino led off with a single and was tripled home by Keon Broxton making it a one-run game. Willy Garcia singled home Broxton with one out, tying the game.
Altoona took the lead in the fifth against reliever Slade Smith. Gift Ngoepe and Alen Hanson reached on consecutive bunt singles. Drew Maggi bunted the runners into scoring position. Paulino singled home the runners for a 4-2 lead.
Erie quickly regained the lead in the top of the sixth against reliever Jason Townsend. Ramon Cabrera, Francisco Martinez and Dean Green all singled, loading the bases. Erie sent up a pinch-hitter Daniel Fields and Altoona countered with lefty Yao-Hsun Yang. Fields singled down the right field line, plating a pair, tying the game. Lemon followed with his third hit of the night, plating Green for a 5-4 lead.
The Curve again tied the game in the last of the sixth. Garcia single, moved to second on a bunt and scored on an Andy Vasquez knock.
The 'Wolves took a commanding lead in the seventh. Moya walked, Cabrera singled and Martinez singled loading the bases. With one out, Fields worked a 3-2 count and drew a walk, scoring Moya for a 6-5 lead. Yang then delivered three consecutive run-scoring wild pitches scoring Cabrera, Martinez and Fields for a 9-5 lead. Lemon was hit by a pitch and Johnson walked putting a pair on for Jones. Jones doubled off of Ken Kasparek, plating two more runs for an 11-5 lead.
Jose Valdez worked a scoreless ninth, preserving the win.
Smith (2-2) earned the win allowing three runs on five this in two innings in relief of Robowski. Robowski allowed two runs on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts in equaling a season-high four innings of work.
