B-Mets Sweep the 'Dogs 6-1 and 1-0

Binghamton, N.Y. -- The Binghamton Mets (54-37) swept a doubleheader from the Portland Sea Dogs (59-32) on Wednesday night, 6-1 and 1-0 at NYSEG Stadium. In game two, the B-Mets had just one hit. The Sea Dogs have dropped the first 3 games of the series.

Game 1 Recap

Angel Cuan (3-4) tossed five scoreless innings and the B-Mets hit two homers, defeating the Sea Dogs, 6-1 in the twinbill opener.

Brian Burgamy and Dustin Lawley smacked homers with two outs off losing pitcher Mike Augliera (3-8). Burgamy gave Binghamton a 1-0 lead in the first and Lawley made it 5-0 in the fifth, launching a two-run shot.

Cuan was masterful for the B-Mets, rebounding from a tough start against the 'Dogs on May 19th at Hadlock Field (eight runs over 4 IP). The lefty yielded three hits, no walks and five strikeouts.

Augliera, who was a standout at Binghamton University, took the complete-game loss. The righty was tagged for 10 hits and six runs.

After Burgamy's homer in the first, the B-Mets didn't scored until the fifth inning. Dilson Herrera delivered a two-run single and Lawley cracked a two-run shot. Travis Taijeron added a run-scoring single in the sixth.

Portland's lone run came in the seventh inning on Michael Almanzar's lead-off homer off RHP Ryan Fraser.

Game 2

Lefty Gabriel Ynoa (1-0) tossed a 4-hit shutout, as the Binghamton Mets completed the doubleheader sweep with a 1-0 win. Binghamton had just one hit in the second game - a two-out run-scoring single by Rylan Sandoval in the second inning.

Ynoa (E-Know-AH) tossed the third complete game of his career, yielding four hits, no walks and fanned nine. The lefty earned his first Double-A win in his second start with the B-Mets.

RHP Mike McCarthy (8-4) suffered the tough-luck loss for Portland. McCarthy yielded one hit, three walks and fanned five over 4 IP.

Portland had a chance in the fifth inning with two on and one out, but Ynoa retired Hieker Menses and Derrik Gibson to end the inning.

Portland has lost four straight road games for the first time this season.

The Sea Dogs and B-Mets are scheduled to wrap up the four-game series with the final game Thursday at 1:05 PM from NYSEG Stadium. RHP Luis Diaz (3-1, 2.00) is scheduled to go for the Sea Dogs and will face off against LHP Steven Matz (1-1, 2.41) of the Mets.
