Collier Hurls Near No-No as 'Wolves Split Doubleheader

The SeaWolves won their fourth straight game in game one of Saturday's doubleheader against the Binghamton Mets 2-0.

The SeaWolves broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth against Mets starter Steven Matz. Aaron Westlake led off with a single, his second hit of the game. Dixon Machado laid down a bunt and on a high throw to second, Westlake and Machado both reached safely. Craig Albernaz followed with a sacrifice bunt pushing the runners into scoring position.

The two run lead would prove to be more than enough for Erie starter Tommy Collier who put together his best start of the season, falling one out shy of a no-hitter.

The Mets put two on base in the first inning on a pair of walks, however, Collier worked through the jam. With Dustin Lawley hitting and one out, a snap throw down to first picked off Brian Burgamy for the second out. Lawley popped out to shallow left and the threat was over.

After walking Jayce Boyd in the second, Collier went on to retire the next 12 hitters before walking Kyle Johnson with one out in the sixth. Johnson was thrown out by Craig Albernaz trying to steal second and Collier struck out Brandon Nimmo for the final out of the inning.

In the last of the seventh, Collier Struck out Burgamy for the first out and induced a fly out to center off the bat of Lawley. Darrell Ceciliani broke up the no hitter with a line drive into right, Steven Moya made a sliding attempt to make the catch but it went off his glove for the first hit of the game. Jayce Boyd flew out, ending the game.

Collier (3-7) tossed the complete game shutout, allowing one hit with four walks and four strikeouts. The win was his first since May 30.

GAME TWO

The SeaWolves could not get the bats going in game two as they were shut out by the Mets 4-0, snapping a four-game winning streak.

The Mets jumped ahead in the first inning against Erie starter Guido Knudson. Brandon Nimmo led off with a walk and stole second. With one out, Bryan Burgamy singled home Nimmo for a 1-0 lead.

Binghamton added a pair in the third. Nimmo walked for the second time in the game and Dilson Herrera singled putting two on. With one out, Dustin Lawley and Darrell Ceciliani each knocked in runs on back-to-back base hits for a 3-0 lead.

The Mets added one more in the seventh and held on for a 4-0 lead.

Erie was limited to just four hits in the game. Corey Jones, Marcus Lemon and Francisco Martinez all singled while Aaron Westlake connected on a double.

Knudson (0-3) allowed three runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts in three innings.

Mets starter Hansel Robles tossed five shutout frames earning the win. He has yet to allow a run over two starts and 12 innings pitched against Erie.
