Erie SeaWolves News Release

The Portland Sea Dogs completed a doubleheader sweep on Thursday afternoon, taking down the SeaWolves in game two 5-0.

Portland jumped ahead in the second against Erie starter Beau Burrows. Jordan Betts and Tate Matheny started the inning with back-to-back walks. Austin Rei flew out to left and on the out, Betts advanced to third. A Burrows wild pitch scored Betts giving Portland a 1-0 lead.

The Sea Dogs extended the lead in the fourth. With two outs, the Dogs loaded the bases on three consecutive singles from Johnny Bladel, Deiner Lopez and Jeremy Rivera. Burrows hit Chad De La Guerra, bringing home Bladel for a 2-0 lead.

Portland again added to the lead in the fifth against reliever Caleb Thielbar. Matheny walked with two outs and Rei connected on a two-run home run for a 4-0 Dogs lead.

The Sea Dogs added an additional run in the last of the sixth against reliever Kurt Spomer. With two outs, Michael Chavis walked and was doubled home by Josh Ockimey making it 5-0.

Portland starter Kyle Hart (7-7) was brilliant in tossing a two-hit, complete game shutout. He lone Erie hits in the game were a single from Willi Castro and a Daz Cameron double. Hart allowed just four base runners in the game, walking a pair and he struck out five.

Burrows (8-8) took the loss for Erie allowing two runs on four hits with four walks and five strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work.

The SeaWolves head to Manchester, NH to begin a three-game weekend series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. RHP Alex Faedo (1-2, 3.94 ERA) takes the mound for Erie on Friday night.
