Akron RubberDucks News Release
Bowie's Keegan Akin became the first 11-game winner in the EL this year, and Martin Cervenka cracked a key RBI single, as the Baysox edged the Akron RubberDucks, 4-3, Thursday night at Canal Park in Akron, Ohio.
Turning Point
The Baysox (50-58) ripped four consecutive singles, scoring twice, to claim a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning against Aaron Civale (5-5). After Yusniel Diaz and Anderson Feliz reached on singles, Ademar Rifaela drove in Diaz with a sharp single to right. Cervenka followed with a similar smash to right to score Feliz and give the Sox a two-run lead. It was Cervenka's 49thRBI.
Mound Presence
Akin (11-6) went seven innings and fanned nine Ducks in taking over the EL lead in wins. He allowed only three hits and walked two. Right-hander Jay Flaa came in to work the final two innings to claim his first save. He allowed a solo homer to Nellie Rodriguez in the ninth to make it a one-run game, but retired Sam Haggerty with a runner on base to end the game. Civale also worked seven innings, but was tagged with his third straight loss. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits.
Duck Tales
Haggerty socked a solo shot off Akin in the second inning, tying the game briefly, 1-1. It was Haggerty's fourth homer of the year. Connor Marabell tripled in the fifth and scored on Haggerty's sacrifice fly. Rodriguez joined the team Thursday from Columbus and doubled in the seventh inning prior to his solo shot in the ninth. It was his first appearance in Akron since the 2016 season.
