Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Harrisburg Senators walked-off against the Altoona Curve 4-3 Thursday night at FNB Field. After a 10-minute delay in the ninth, the Senators scored a pair of runs to come from behind and take the series.
Bryan Reynolds hit a two-run home run against Senators starter Tyler Mapes to open the scoring in the bottom of the third.
The Senators tied the game in the fourth with one run scoring on a throwing error by shortstop Cole Tucker and another on a run-scoring double by Austin Davidson.
Altoona quickly retook the lead in the top of the fifth when Will Craig singled in a run.
Mapes took a no-decision after allowing three runs in his five frames.
The Curve remained ahead until the bottom of the ninth. The Senators loaded the bases against Altoona reliever Tate Scioneaux on two walks and a single before a 10-minute rain delay. When play resumed, Dan Gamache pinch hit for Osvaldo Abreu and hit a run scoring ground out to tie the game.
After an intentional walk to Alec Keller to load the bases, Daniel Johnson lined game-winning single to deep center to send the Senators to the win.
"I was proud of (the players)," Senators manager Matt LeCroy said. "Our at-bats got better later in the game. I'm really excited we were able to make some adjustments in the ninth inning against a team we were chasing. I'm glad the rain held off to give us a chance to win."
Jordan Mills (1-1) picked up the win after throwing two shutout innings of relief while Scioneaux (2-2) took the loss.
The win was the Senators' fourth when trailing entering the ninth inning this season.
"It's a good group of guys from the coaching staff to the platers, we all have good chemistry. Hopefully we can get on a roll. We set ot at the beginning of the year to play for something and that's what we're doing. All the credit goes to the guys in the clubhouse and the coaches that go out there every day with them."
The Senators begin a three-game road trip against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies Friday night. Cesar Vargas starts for the Senators opposite Binghamton starter Franklyn Kilome. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. NYSEG Stadium. The game can be heard on CBS Sports Harrisburg 96.5 & 95.3 FM and 1400 AM or at www.cbssportsharrisburg.com beginning at 6:50 p.m.
