Portland Sea Dogs News Release
(Manchester, NH) - LF Ryan Kalish (4-for-5, 3 RBI, 2 SB) and DH Jon Still (2-for-5, HR, 3 RBI) each drove in 3 runs as Portland defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 8-5 in a rain-shortened 8-inning contest on Monday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
The two teams were suspended after one inning last night and resumed play in the second inning on Monday beginning at 5:35 PM. A lengthy rain delay after eight innings caused the postponement of the 7-inning contest that was scheduled to follow the suspended game. The Sea Dogs finished 4-2 on the roadtrip and swept their first series of the season on the road.
Portland scored the first 6 runs of the game off starter RHP Randy Boone (IP, 2 R, 0 ER, H, BB, SO) and reliever RHP Adrian Martin. Kalish delivered a 2-out, 2-run single in the first inning off Boone. LHP Felix Doubront scattered two runners in the first inning and that's when play was halted on Sunday night.
RHP Jarod Plummer (6-3) earned the win for Portland, retiring the first six batters he faced but yielded five runs on six hits over 5.2 IP. Kalish tagged an RBI single off Martin in the third inning to give Portland a 3-0 lead. Still clocked a 3-run shot over the Samuel Adams Bar & Grill with two outs in the fourth to put Portland in front 6-0. Still homered three times on the trip and leads the team with nine.
RHP Chad Rhoades retired all four batters faced to earn his 2nd save in as many opportunities.
1B David Cooper went 2-for-3, HR and 2 RBI for New Hampshire and scored three runs. Cooper cut the Portland lead to 6-3 in the fifth inning with a 2-run homer to left field. 2B Brad Emaus put New Hampshire on the board with a run-scoring ground out and DH Brian Dopirak produced a run-scoring single in the seventh inning.
Boone ended up taking the loss for New Hampshire, surrendering two unearned runs in one inning. Martin yielded six hits and four runs over 2.2 IP. RHP Leon Boyd gave up an unearned run and 1B Lars Anderson tagged a solo-homer off RHP Celson Polanco in the eighth inning.
Anderson (1-for-3, HR, RBI), 3B Jorge Jimenez (3-for-4, 3 RS), Kalish (4-for-5, 3 RBI), CF Josh Reddick (2-for-4) and Still (2-for-5) accounted for Portland's 12 hits. The Sea Dogs scored 6 of 7 runs with two outs and New Hampshire produced 4 two-out runs.
