
Reading Tops Trenton 12-2

(Trenton, NJ)- Reading had two five-run innings, and topped Trenton 12-2 on Monday afternoon from Waterfront Park. Reading took three out of four games from Trenton in the series, and has won six of the seven games in the season-series. Reading outscored Trenton 29-15 in the series.
Reading (43-32) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly RBI by Third Baseman Neil Sellers. In the second inning, the Phillies scored five runs to break the game open. Reading Left fielder Kevin Mahar was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Second Baseman Brad Harman followed by doubling Mahar over to third base. Reading Catcher Kevin Nelson then trickled a ball down to Trenton Third baseman Marcos Vechionacci. Vechionacci made an errant throw home allowing Mahar to score and make it 2-0. Harman advanced to third, and Nelson advanced to second base. With one out, Reading Shortstop Ozzie Chavez had an RBI ground out to add a run. Right Fielder Michael Taylor connected on an RBI double to increase the lead to 4-0. After a walk to Reading First baseman Brian Stavisky, Third baseman Neil Sellers singled home Taylor, and Stavisky scored on a throwing error by Thunder Center fielder Austin Krum. Taylor went 4 x 5 with two runs, and an RBI. He had 11 hits in the series.
The Phillies added a run in the third inning on a sacrifice fly RBI by Nelson. The Phillies tacked on five runs in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 12-0. In the inning, Stavisky had an RBI double and Sellers had a two-run single. Thunder Starting Pitcher Ryan Pope (2-6) allowed 13 hits and 10 runs (nine earned runs) in five innings to take the loss. Reading Starting Pitcher Joe Savery (10-1) earned his Eastern League leading 10th win of the season. He went six shutout innings and allowed only two hits. Trenton Infielder Chris Malec had four hits for Trenton, including a two-run home run in the ninth inning off of Reading Reliever Tyson Brummett. The 12 runs and 18 hits by Reading were season-highs for an opponent against Trenton this season.
Trenton starts a four-game series against the Erie Sea Wolves (Double-A affiliate affiliate of the Detroit Tigers) on Tuesday night. Trenton's Starting Pitcher on Tuesday night will be TBD. Erie will counter with RHP Pat Stanley (1-2, 4.91). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m in Erie, PA.
