Aerodynamics...

One to Forget...The Aeros fell for just the fifth time in 22 contests yesterday afternoon, dropping game three of this four-game series 6-4 to Binghamton in front of 3,943 fans at Canal Park. The pitching staff had issues throughout, allowing a season-high 12 walks while the Mets collected nine hits and scored the final three runs of the game in the seventh inning against Akron reliever Josh Judy. Binghamton had plenty of opportunities to run up the score even more however, as they stranded 14 base runners (tied for a season-high for an Aeros opponent) and went only 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position. With the loss, Akron dropped to 38-8 when scoring four or more runs on the season (12-16 otherwise).

Not a Laffing Matter...Indians left-hander Aaron Laffey made his second rehab start for the Aeros yesterday, but was nowhere near as dominant as his last outing when he allowed only a hit and a walk while striking out four over four scoreless innings. Laffey reached his 80-pitch limit after just 3.1 innings while permitting five hits, three runs and six walks, the most walks allowed by a single Akron pitcher this season. It was the second-shortest start in his Double-A career (spanning 28 games), with the shortest being 2.0 innings of shutout baseball he delivered against Erie September 3rd, 2006.

Hawaiian Warrior...Reliever Steven Wright continued his hot pitching from the bullpen with another two innings of scoreless relief yesterday. He allowed two hits and two walks while striking out a pair as well, but managed to strand both of Laffey's inherited runners in the fourth. Wright has now worked 12.2 consecutive scoreless innings spanning his past seven relief appearances since a spot-start against Reading June 1st. The 24-year-old product of the University of Hawaii now is 5-0 with a 2.93 ERA on the season, but has been even more impressive out of the bullpen. In the first 13 relief appearances of his career, Wright is 4-0 with a 1.38 ERA with 24 strikeouts compared to just six walks in 26.0 IP.

The Illustrious Ichabod...Another solid performance Sunday came courtesy of third baseman Jerad Head, a super-utility player who has now started 12 or more games at three different positions in the field (second base, third base and right field). The 26-year-old Head finished the day 3-4 with two RBI and a run scored, along with his 12th double of the season. The native of Topeka, KS and former Washburn Ichabod is having an efficient season for Akron in his first full season in Double-A, batting .287 with four home runs and 26 RBI in 57 games while ranking tied for third on the team with 16 multi-hit contests.

Did You Know...The Aeros rank fourth in the league with a .261 team batting average with runners in scoring position, and the pitchers are third with a .231 batting average against. The average Eastern League team bats .251 with RISP.
