Harrisburg Senators News Release

A four-run fifth inning propelled the Portland Sea Dogs to a 7-4 victory over the Harrisburg Senators on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field in Portland, spoiling a potential Senators sweep.

Left-hander John Lannan (1-1), who began the year as the opening-day starter for the Washington Nationals, gave up ten hits and six runs in his six innings of work for the Sens, and took the loss. Kyle Weiland (4-5) allowed four runs in five innings, and picked up the win for Portland. Jason Rice pitched the ninth for his ninth save.

The Sens (38-41) took a 3-0 lead early in the game, scoring two runs in the second, and one in the third. Edgardo Baez provided the runs in the second inning, doubling with two outs to score Chris Marrero and Jesus Valdez. Then, in the third, Brad Coon led off the inning with a solo home run to make it a three-run game.

But Portland (39-38) came right back with two in the bottom of the third inning, and then used the four-run fifth to take the lead. The Sens struck back in the sixth, when a Michael Martinez double brought home Chris Marrero to cut the Sea Dogs' advantage to 6-4. Portland would tack on one more in the eighth to complete the scoring.

The Sens now take to the road again, and head to Trenton for a four-game weekend series with the Thunder. Trenton currently leads the Eastern League's Eastern Division with a 47-30 record, and will send RHP David Phelps to the mound on Thursday night. Phelps is 6-0, with a 2.04 ERA. Left-hander Ross Detwiler (0-0, 1.17), a Major Leaguer still working his way back from injury, will start for the Sens. The first pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 7:05 PM, and fans can tune in for the action on 1460 AM The Ticket and www.senatorsbaseball.com beginning at 6:50.
