
Hechavarria Joins Fisher Cats

Manchester, NH-The Toronto Blue Jays, parent club of the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, today announced that they have transferred 21-year-old shortstop Adeiny Hechavarriato the Fisher Cats from the Advanced-A Dunedin Blue Jays. Hechavarria, the former starting shortstop for the Cuban National Team who signed a four-year, $10 million contract with the Blue Jays in April, takes the roster spot of Manny Mayorsonin New Hampshire. Mayorson, the Fisher Cats' all-time career hits leader with 328, was transferred to Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move, and fellow infielder Luis Sanchezwas activated from the Fisher Cats' seven-day disabled list and transferred to Dunedin.
"Manny Mayorson provided our fans with a lot of good memories through the years, and we wish him the best of luck back in Triple-A," said Fisher Cats President/General Manager Rick Brenner. "And there has been much buzz about Adeiny Hechavarria since he signed with the Blue Jays in the spring, so we look forward to seeing what he can do for our exciting club."
Hechavarria batted .193 with one home run, seven RBIs and seven stolen bases in 41 games for the D-Jays.
Mayorson, 27, who has appeared in 307 games for the Fisher Cats over parts of four seasons, was ranked third in the Eastern League in batting (.316) and had the best total plate appearance/strikeout ratio (15.71) in the league at the time of his promotion.
Sanchez, 23, batted .152 in 15 games for New Hampshire.
The Fisher Cats wrap up a three-game series at 7:05pm against the Reading Phillies tonight at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. New Hampshire sends right-hander Zach Stewart (5-2, 4.36) to the mound against R-Phils righty J.C. Ramirez (1-1, 5.54).
