RICHMOND, VA - The Akron Aeros held on for a wild, 8-6, victory over the Richmond Flying Squirrels in front of 5,133 at The Diamond on Wednesday night. The victory also netted the Aeros the series win, having taken two-of-three from the Squirrels.

The evening began on a positive note for Richmond as David Mixon faced the minimum through three innings and the Squirrels took the lead against Akron right-hander Alex White in the bottom of the third. Ryan Lormand led off the inning with a double to right field and scored a batter later on a groundout from Darren Ford.

However, things fell apart quickly for the Squirrels in the fourth. Jordan Henry led off with an infield-single and Jason Kipnis followed with a single. Lonnie Chisenhall made it three consecutive singles to tie the game, 1-1. Mixon conceded three more runs to the Aeros in the inning as they exited the frame with a 4-1 advantage.

Things got worse for Richmond in the fifth as Mixon issued a walk to Henry with one out. Kipnis singled and Mixon was removed in favor of Wilmin Rodriguez. Henry stole third base on Rodriguez's first pitch and scored when Chisenhall lifted a sacrifice fly to left field. Akron increased their lead to 7-1 when Matt McBride followed with a two-run home run to left field.

Mixon (8-4) took the loss over 4 1/3 innings. He surrendered six runs - five earned - on seven hits. He walked one and struck out two as he suffered his fourth defeat of the season.

Akron made it eight unanswered runs when they tacked on a run against Rodriguez in the seventh. However, the Squirrels awoke in the bottom of the inning to begin an ultimately unsuccessful comeback bid. The Squirrels posted two unearned runs and finally chased White in the seventh, closing to within five runs.

White (3-4) lasted 6 2/3 innings as he won for the third time on the season. He allowed three runs - one earned - on five hits. He walked just one and struck out four.

Richmond made things interesting with three runs against right-hander Bryan Price in the eighth inning. The rally included RBI singles from Clay Timpner and Lormand. The final run of the inning plated on an error on Kipnis.

Right-hander Omar Aguilar came on to douse the flames in the eighth and then worked a scoreless ninth to complete the Akron victory and earn his fourth save of the season. Akron completed the season-series with Richmond with a record of 4-2.

Thomas Neal recorded his 24th multi-hit game of the season in loss, recording three hits including two doubles.

The Squirrels open a four-game series against the Erie SeaWolves (Detroit Tigers) on Thursday night at 7:05 PM at The Diamond. LHP Clayton Tanner (4-5, 3.46) will make the start for Richmond against LHP Charlie Furbush (0-0, 3.86) for Erie.
