Portland, Maine - The Reading Fightin' Phils (39-60) scored three runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Portland Sea Dogs 5-2 Thursday night at Hadlock Field. It's the fifth straight loss for the Sea Dogs who fall to 55-41 on the season.

Sal Gozza broke a 2-2 tie in the ninth inning with a RBI single scoring Luke Miller. Bryson Stott added a two-run homer to extend Reading's lead.

Portland had maintained a 2-1 lead until Reading tied the game at two in the bottom of the eighth inning when Madison Stokes homered over the Maine Monster.

Jose Disla (0-2) took the loss for Portland allowing three runs on three hits in one inning of work.

Reading held Portland to just four hits on the night, two of them coming in the first inning.

Danny Santana, playing for the Sea Dogs on a MLB rehab assignment, got the scoring started for the Sea Dogs with a RBI single in the first inning. Portland took a 2-0 lead when Santana scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Roldani Baldwin.

Reading scored in the second inning when Logan O'Hoppe led off the inning with a double, advanced to third on a ground out, and scored on a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Brock Stassi.

Portland starter Victor Santos faced his former team for the first time holding the Fightin Phils to one run on five hits in five innings of work. He struck out seven and walked one, but did not factor into the decision. Since joining the Sea Dogs, Santos has only issued four walks in 31.0

On Friday night the Sea Dogs will transform into the Maine Whoopie Pies for the night as they host Reading at 6:00 PM. Right-handed pitcher Denyi Reyes (3-1, 3.57) is slated to get the start for the Whoopie Pies. He will be opposed by Reading righty Hans Crouse (3-3, 3.29). Radio coverage on the WPEI Sea Dogs Radio Network, built by General Dynamics/ Bath Iron Works, begins at 5:45 PM. The game is also available on MiLB.TV.
