Portland Sea Dogs News Release
BAGS ARE PACKED:The Portland Sea Dogs and New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays affiliate) meet in the rubber‐game of their series on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field...Portland was shutout in the opener 3‐0 but responded with a 4‐3 win in last night's game...Today ends a 32‐game stretch (16‐15) against the Northern Division as tomorrow starts a 26‐game run against the South...The Sea Dogs will next play a Northern Division opponent on August 25 at Binghamton.
âDOGS GET EVEN: DH Jon Still's 2‐run single in the sixth inning drove in the tying and go‐ ahead runs in Portland's 4‐3 come‐from‐behind victory over New Hampshire on Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd of 7,368 at Hadlock Field. RHP Ryne Lawson (2‐8) tossed six solid innings on four hits and three runs to pick up his first win since beating the Connecticut Defenders on May 24 at Hadlock Field. LHP Andrew Dobies worked 2 perfect innings and fanned three to earn his 3rd hold of the season. In the ninth inning, RHP Bryce Cox danced around 2 singles and retired CF Darin Mastroianni on a fly out to center field to end the game. Cox earned his 8th save in 9 opportunities and has allowed 2 ER in his last 10 IP.
IT ALL STARTS HERE: Lawson earned his second straight quality start and the 25th for the staff this season...Over the last nine days, the starters have allowed only 6 runs over 47 IP (1.15 ERA)...Mills is looking for his 6th straight win and his 7th over his last 10 starts...The righty had an ERA of 8.92 through May but is 4‐0, 1.96 ERA (5 ER/23 IP) in July.
STILL OF THE NIGHT: Still went 1‐for‐2, 2 RBI, BB and continues to lead all Red Sox Minor Leaguers with 64 RBI...The Mississippi native is hitting .274 (23‐for‐84), 3 HR, 22 RBI and 9 2B in July - leads the team with 27 doubles and tied with 13 HR (Reddick)...1B Lars Anderson knocked in the first run with an RBI double in the first inning...RF Matt Sheely played in his first game since July 8 and went 2‐for‐3, RBI.
THAT WAS A RECORD...WE THINK: Mastroianni established a Fisher Cats' franchise record with four outfield assists in last night's game...The Major League record is also four which has happened 11 times (5 in the American League and 6 in the National League)...OF Sam Langford (Cleveland Indians) was the last player to have 4 assists in one game but that happened in 1928...Langford played his first Major League game with the Red Sox in 1926.
TOMORROW'S STARTERS: LHP Felix Doubront makes his 19th start of the season for the Sea Dogs opener against the Reading Phillies...Doubront is coming off a 4‐hit shutout with 10 strikeouts against New Britain...RHP Kyle Drabek is making his 10th appearance and 9th start of the season for the Reading Phillies.
