CURVE/AKRON SERIES: The Altoona Curve and Akron Aeros will lock horns for the 21st time of their 24 scheduled meetings. The Curve and Aeros are each other's second most common opponent (the Curve play the Erie SeaWolves 25 times in 2009 with the Eastern League's unbalanced scheduling). Akron has won 14/20 meetings so far and all time have a very impressive mark in games played at Canal Park, going 67-43 against the Curve.

LAST TIME OUT: After Akron jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning the Curve scored nine unanswered runs to take game two of three against Akron 9-3 Saturday night. Pedro Alvarez hit his sixth Double-A home run and Jose Tabata had three hits for the second night in a row.

FOR ALTOONA:RHP Yoslan Herrera will make his 18th appearance of the season and his 12th start. Herrera enters today's contest undefeated and is coming off two of his stronger starts of the season. His last two starts consisted of tossing 7.0 shutout innings allowing seven hits in a 7-1 win over Harrisburg on 7/16 and throwing 4.0 scoreless innings before having to exit due to a rain delay against Reading on 7/21. This will be Herrera's fourth start against Akron. Herrera has no record and a 4.38 ERA. Herrera, a native of Pinar del Rio, Cuba was signed by Pittsburgh as a non-drafted free agent in December 2006. Last season, Herrera made six starts for Pittsburgh, compiling a 1-1 record with a 9.82 ERA.

FOR AKRON: LHP Bobby Livingston is on the mound for the Aeros. Livingston is 1-3 with Akron this year. He signed as a minor league free agent after being released by the Orioles organization on 7/3. Livingston was a fourth round draft choice by Seattle in 2001. Livingston enters tonight on a three game losing streak including a loss on 7/16 where he allowed 10 runs on 11 hits in 4.2 innings against Bowie.

YES WAY, JOSE: Pirates No. 3 prospect OF Jose Tabata continues his offensive tear with another three hit night (3x5). Tabata is now batting .306 to lead the Curve and is hitting .372 in July including a career high 13-game hitting streak from 7/5-7/19.

FINE FINALES: The Curve enter today's finale with Akron having won four of their last five series finale dating back to 7/6.

MACHI, MACHI MAN: Reliever Jean Machi continued his scoreless innings streak last night which now stands at 12.0 innings. Machi now sports a Curve low 1.15 ERA and has allowed only one earned run since 5/3.

POST ALL-STAR PROGRESS: After the Eastern League All-Star break the Curve are outscoring opponents by 17 runs (53-36) in nine games after being outscored by 106 in the first half of the season.
