Curve Take Two Of Three From Aeros
July 26, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
Altoona Curve News Release
AKRON, OH - The Altoona Curve plated five runs before the Akron Aeros (AA-Cleveland Indians) even picked up a bat as the Curve took Sunday afternoon's series finale 7-3 over the division leading Aeros at Canal Park.
The Curve matched a season high with six hits in the five run first inning. Gorkys Hernandez, Jason Delaney, and Miles Durham all recorded RBI doubles in the first and Pirates No. 3 prospect Jose Tabata drilled an RBI triple off of Akron hurler Bobby Livingston (7-6) who fell to 1-4 since joining the Indians organization following his released from the Orioles on 7/4.
Hernandez would drive home two more runs in the ninth as the speedy centerfielder finished the day 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.
Curve right hander Yoslan Herrera (7-0) remained undefeated in 2009. The 28 year-old Cuban tossed 5.2 innings and allowed just two runs on four hits while striking out three for his seventh win of the season.
The Curve are now winners of five of their last seven games and have only lost one of their previous six series. Altoona (40-62) hopes to build on their recent success as they return home Monday to begin a seven game homestand. Altoona welcomes in the Binghamton Mets (AA-New York Mets) for their first and only series at BCB this season Monday night.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Monday with radio coverage beginning at 6:35 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Altoona Curve Radio Network. Probable starters for the series opener are RHP Mike Crotta (4-6, 5.12) for the Curve and LHP Eric Niesen (1-5, 7.36) for the B-Mets (38-61).
Monday's game features $2 outfield seats and $3 grandstand tickets as well as $2 16 oz draft beers as part of the Curve's "Monday Madness" promotions. Great seats are still available for Monday and all seven games throughout the upcoming homestand. Fans can order tickets by calling 877-99-CURVE, online at altoonacurve.com, or at the Blair County Ballpark Box Office.
Notes:
The Curve are now 32-19 when scoring first.
The Curve have won five of their last six series finales.
This is the Curve's first series win over Akron in six tries.
