
Harrisburg Drops Trenton 5-2 On Sunday Afternoon

(Harrisburg, PA)- Harrisburg Shortstop Jemel Spearman hit a two-run home run, and had four RBI, to lift Harrisburg to a 5-2 victory over Trenton on Sunday afternoon. Harrisburg swept the three-game series, and handed Trenton its first sweep since Reading swept Trenton June 9-11 in Reading. The Thunder finished their seven-game road trip with a record of 3-4.
With the scored tied at 2-2, Harrisburg (44-55) scored two runs to take the lead. Second baseman Ofilio Castro singled to start the inning. Catcher Luke Montz followed with a single to move Castro to third base. With runners at first and third base, Designated Hitter Marvin Lowrance grounded into a fielders-choice to put runners at second and third base with one out. Then, Spearman drove Montz in from third base on a sacrifice fly RBI to give the Senators a 3-2 lead. A two-out RBI double by Center fielder Edgardo Baez increased the Harrisburg lead to 4-2. Harrisburg added a run in the sixth inning on a sacfice fly RBI by Spearman. Earlier in the game, Spearman tied the game at 2-2 in the second inning on a two-run home run off of Thunder Starting Pitcher Jeremy Bleich. Spearman finished the game 1 x 1 with a run, home run, and four RBI.
Trenton (50-50) took a 2-0 lead in the top of first inning. With one out in the inning, Second baseman Reegie Corona singled. After Shortstop Eduardo Nunez popped out for the second out in the inning, Designated Hitter Jesus Montero connected on a two-run home run off of Harrisburg Starting Pitcher Jeff Mandel (1-0). Montero now has nine home runs on the season for the Thunder, and home runs in back-to-back games.
Bleich (1-4) allowed six hits and five runs over six innings to take the loss. He struck out four and walked three. Mandel earned the win for the Senators in his Double-A debut. He scattered six hits and two runs in seven-plus innings. Harrisburg Reliever Clint Everts pitched the final two innings without allowing a run to notch his second save of the season. Trenton tied a season-high by hitting into four double-plays.
Trenton and Harrisburg will meet at Waterfront Park on Monday in the first game of a five-game series. RHP Ryan Pope (4-7, 4.94) will start for Trenton against Harrisburg RHP Luis Atilano (4-7, 5.26). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
