Harrisburg Senators News Release

Sunday afternoon at Metro Bank Park the Senators completed a three-game sweep of the Trenton Thunder with a 5-2 win. Jemel Spearman drove in four of the five runs and Jeff Mandel pitched seven plus quality innings in earning a win in his AA debut.

Mandel induced Trenton to bounce into three double plays and at one point retired eight straight batters. He left with two on and no outs in the eighth inning, but Clint Everts came in and retired the final six batters to save the win for Mandel and earn Everts his second save on the season.

Jesus Montero hit a two-run home run in the first inning for the only runs Trenton would get in the ballgame.

Spearman hit a two-run home run in the second to tie the game, then hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth to give the Sens a 3-2 lead. Michael Daniel doubled in a run to make the score 4-2 in the fourth. The Sens capped the scoring when Spearman hit his second sacrifice fly of the game to center, scoring Ofilio Castro with the fifth run of the game. Castro finished with three hits for the Senators.

The Senators completed their second three-game home sweep of the season and improve to 44-55 on the season while Trenton fell to 50-50. The two teams make their way to Trenton to start a five-game in four-day series on Monday night at 7:00pm with RH Luis Atilano on the mound for the Sens opposed by RH Ryan Pope for the Thunder.
